What does the setting vacation mean on my water heater?

There are three settings, vacation, medium and hot. Right now it's on vacation and we don't have any hot water. Do I just need to put in on medium or hot?

When it is set oon vacation, it does not need to heat water. Reset the temp.

Vacation mean it literal terms that there isn’t anyone in the house because they are vacation, which means why heat the water when nobody is home. Put the setting on either setting, just depends if you are paying for the bill to heat water!

The settings are basically low medium and high. (Why keep water any hotter than necessary while you are on vacation).
One mark is usually bolder than all others on the setting dial. This one will be 120 degrees F. This will ensure the most amount of hot water with out the risk of scalding accidents.

Yes, try it on medium first (cheaper) then try it on hot (not as cheap).

Your vacation setting could have just been low and not off. If you have not changed it from vacation, and the water used to run hot enough for you, then you have another problem. Your coil is burnt out. You can replace the coil, or the entire water heater.
Turning it to a higher setting with one coil burnt out will make your electrical bill triple. Check it out first.

I like the vacation setting. The water is plenty hot for me. I live alone and like fairly cool showers.

It is the lowest setting on the water heater thermostat. It doesnt let the burner come on until you reset it. That way you arent wasting gas or electricity heating a tank of water that youre not using.
